The Ohio Green Party Recommends a “Yes” vote on Issue Two, the Ohio Drug Price Relief Act. Although Greens recognize that this is at best a partial solution to runaway drug prices, and a far cry from the health care solutions we need, we believe it is a step in the right direction and recommend a “Yes” vote on this issue. This proposal will save taxpayers money and will help everyday people afford health care. Opponents to this measure funded by the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America threaten to shift costs onto pharmacies and private insurers if drug prices paid by taxpayer-funded agencies are capped. The Green Party denounces such corporate-funded threats, scare tactics and unmitigated greed at the cost of the lives and health of the People. We unequivocally demand an end to the current price gouging by private manufacturers upon taxpayer-funded healthcare programs and upon healthcare consumers. The industry’s greed-driven $20 million campaign against Issue 2 clearly demonstrates why Greens believe that a universal, single-payer health care system is needed. While Issue Two may effectively seem like putting a band-aid on a gaping wound, we believe it would be an improvement to the current situation. While health care for every day people is under attack by Washington, D.C., we must make sure that Ohioans have access to the care and resources we all need survive, live, and thrive. We must work towards universal care for all Ohioans, regardless of ability to pay, because health care is a human right!
