Green Party of Ohio announces results of Presidential Nominating Convention

ohio green party candidates 2016Columbus OH:  Yesterday (4-3-16) The Green Party of Ohio concluded a successful weekend which included two events.  On Saturday we were proud to host a Meet & Greet with Dr. Jill Stein, one of  the Green Party’s five Presidential candidates, at the home of Bob Fitrakis and Suzanne Patzer.   The event was well attended with interested people from across the state coming to hear Dr. Stein speak.

That was followed by our Presidential Nominating Convention yesterday where a vote was taken to determine which Presidential candidate would be Ohio’s choice to represent the Green Party of the United States in November’s election.

We are happy to announce that all five Presidential candidates received support from those in attendance.   In unofficial results, Dr. Stein emerged with a convincing victory, tallying 61% of the vote and 6 of the 9 delegates apportioned to Ohio for the National Convention taking place in August in Houston Texas.  William Kreml garnered 19% of the vote and 2 delegates, Sedinam Kinamo Christin Moyowasifza-Curry received 12% and 1 delegate, Darryl Cherney received 5% and Kent Mesplay received 3%.

Following the Presidential candidate presentations, local and statewide Green Party candidates spoke about their campaigns and the growth of the Green Party of OhioThe Convention unanimously endorsed these five candidates.

We are proud to be fielding an excellent slate of candidates this year and are looking forward to the November election.  The majority of the population in the country either considers themselves independent or claims membership in an alternative political party.   The Democratic and Republican Parties are experiencing a loss of support and as the only alternative party with ballot access in Ohio we are in the unique position of being on the verge of unprecedented growth.  Our strength lies in the people of the State of Ohio and we ask for your support.
