The Green Party of Ohio Calls for Candidates for the 2025 & 2026 Elections
The Green Party is looking for progressives to run for elected office. An off-year election, 2025, provides opportunities for many local offices from city councils to school boards to township trustees. The filing date is fast approaching for many city council races. In 2026, seats in the US Congress, the Ohio State Senate and House of Representatives, and other offices are up for election. To be competitive for these seats candidates need to begin their campaigns early.
If you or someone you know is thinking of running, please contact the Green Party of Ohio. All across the country hundreds of Green Party candidates will be challenging the two corporate parties. This will be a great time for someone to learn the art of running for office, and a smart, energetic person can win.
While Trump and his minions are trying to destroy “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion,” the Green Party continues to hold “Diversity” as one of our key values. So we are looking for candidates who are under-represented in elective office: women, African Americans, Hispanic, Asian Americans, gays and lesbians, people with disabilities, and young people. We are also looking for volunteers to work with the candidates.
- Green office holders in 26 states and the District of Columbia are hard at work for the voters who elected them. They are creating public policy on important issues including civil rights, a living wage, affordable housing, alternative voting systems, peace, and the environment. They are opposing urban sprawl, fracking, and expansion of corporate power.
Green office holders ran to make an immediate impact on their communities as town council members, county commissioners, and school board members. These Greens reached out to voters of diverse backgrounds and brought together coalitions of community organizations and individuals to begin to reclaim their local governments.
*The filing date is fast approaching for many Ohio city council races. Filing dates vary for municipal offices, check with your local Board of Elections. If you have questions, or for more information Contact: Logan Martinez, Green Party of Ohio 937-260-2591–no text or greensofwcohio@gmail.co

Panelists:
Matthew Hoh, has been a Senior Fellow with the Center for International Policy since 2010. In 2009, Matthew resigned in protest from his post in Afghanistan with the State Department over the American escalation of the war. He advocates a foreign policy centered on diplomacy, human rights, and international cooperation, rather than militarism. He is a disabled veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps who served in Iraq.
Butch Ware, is a lifelong activist and educator specializing in the history of empire, colonialism, genocide and revolution. He is an associate professor of History, Black Studies, and Islamic Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Butch has been working as a public intellectual, activist, artist, and organizer, supporting communities across the country and around the world to challenge imperialism, ethnic cleansing, and endless war, and to build sustainable, just, peaceful alternatives rooted in African, Indigenous, and Abrahamic traditions. Butch was the Vice-presidential nominee for the Green Party in 2024.
Daniel Kovalik, a human rights lawyer and author, is a strong critic of U.S. interventionist foreign policies. He opposes regime change operations, economic sanctions, and military interventions, arguing that these tactics often violate international law and worsen conditions in affected countries. Kovalik emphasizes the importance of respecting national sovereignty and addressing global issues like poverty and inequality through cooperation rather than coercion.
Dr. Jill Stein, was the Green Party candidate for President in 2024, 2016, and 2012. Jill advocates for cutting military spending, ending U.S. interventionist wars, and closing overseas military bases. She supports replacing militarism with diplomacy, promoting international cooperation, and respecting international law. Her approach prioritizes addressing the root causes of conflict, such as poverty, climate change, and inequality, and redirecting resources toward global humanitarian aid and development.
The webinar moderators will be Madelyn Hoffman, a Co-Chair of GPAX, and Noura Khouri of the Green Party of California.
